Another Day, Another New Pro Team Name In Las Vegas: Lacrosse Team Called ‘Desert Dogs’
By Alan Snel of LVSportsBiz.com
The new Las Vegas indoor lacrosse team that is partially owned by hockey legend Wayne Gretzky and Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai has announced its new name.
The name is the Desert Dogs.
The Las Vegas Desert Dogs of the National Lacrosse League will be playing their games at Mandalay Bay’s Michelob Ultra Arena later this year for 2022-23 season.
The Desert Dogs are also owned by Nets coach Steve Nash and pro golfer Dustin Johnson.
With former West Point graduate Bill Foley owning the NHL Golden Knights, the AHL Silver Knights and the Knight Hawks of the Indoor Football League, the recent new team names had a “knight” theme to go with medieval references in the arenas.
But the pro lacrosse team went with a Las Vegas geography reference with the “Desert Dogs” name.
The new lax franchise unveiled its name in a tweet today, which included both boys and girls with lacrosse gear and also images of the Strip. The team has promoted its new branding through TV spots during tonight’s Vegas Golden Knights broadcast, billboards and social media.
The Devil Dogs are also looking for recent college grads to sell tickets and recently advertised this job.
