For the first time, Raiders owner Mark Davis this week publicly discussed the reason why three team business executive staffers left in July.
Davis cited “accounting irregularities” as the factor behind former Raiders President Marc Badain, Chief Financial Officer Ed Villanueva and Controller Araxie Grant leaving in July. Davis spoke to The Athletic about the “irregularities,” but didn’t specify the exact financial issues.
Grant, a veteran CPA, told LVSportsBiz.com Friday that she continues to stand by her statement in August that she was not involved in any financial impropriety.
Here’s Grant’s statement from two months ago:
Grant started in December 2019 and left in July.
It’s been a turbulent three months for Davis, who said he was blindsided by former coach Jon Gruden’s toxic emails, which led to Gruden’s resignation this month. It’s rare for an NFL team to lose both a team president and head coach within only a few months of their resignations.
