Another First For UNLV Football: Rebels Play First Full-Capacity Game At Allegiant Stadium Thursday

Officially speaking, the first fans to pass through the turnstiles at Allegiant Stadium to attend a live event inside the Raiders’ lavish indoor venue were the 2,000 folks who watched the UNLV football team play state rival Nevada, Reno on Halloween 2020.
There were no fans for Raiders games in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so it was Marcus Arroyo’s crew to make Allegiant Stadium history in a building that was subsidized by Southern Nevada to the tune of $750 million.
So tomorrow, the UNLV Rebels football team gets its chance to fill the stadium for the first time. To help its fans negotiate the stadium traffic and parking issues, UNLV has posted this item

UNLV hosts the Eastern Washington Eagles of the Big Sky Conference Thursday at 7 PM. UNLV’s sports information department supplied these tidbits:
^ UNLV opens its 54th season of football. The Rebels are 24-29 all-time in season lid-lifters, including 19-9 when they happen at home.
^ The Rebels are 36-15-1 all-time vs. teams currently making up the Big Sky Conference, including taking their most-recent meeting vs. Southern Utah to open the 2019 season, 56-23.
^ UNLV Super Senior RB Charles Williams needs 60 more yards to become just the fourth Rebel to reach 3,000 on the ground in a career.
Speaking of Williams, UNLV enlisted the runner to offer some tips on parking and transportation at the stadium. “Plan ahead and leave early” — always good advice with the stadium. Take a look:

At that first UNLV game in Allegiant Stadium on Halloween, the 2,000 fans were scattered around the 65,000-seat venue. It was only three percent of capacity.

UNLV lost all six of its games in 2020, including all three games at Allegiant Stadium.
Stadium workers will be sliding in the artificial playing surface for the UNLV football game. The Raiders play on natural grass.
There’s another full-capacity college football game at Allegiant Stadium fonly two days after Thursday’s UNLV game. On Saturday, BYU and Arizona tangle in the 2021 Vegas Kickoff Classic. Then, the Raiders host the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football Sept. 13 to kick off the Raiders’ season.
