Mark Davis got a big public subsidy for his NFL stadium. What about the Oakland Athletics getting public money for a ballpark? Probably not. Photo: Daniel Clark/LVSportsBiz.com

LVSportsBiz Roundup: Public Money For Athletics Ballpark In Vegas?; Raiders Ticket Prices; Pacquiao On Boxing vs Life Outside Ring; NFL Betting Panel

By Alan Snel of LVSportsBiz.com

It was just a few minutes before the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium ribbon-cutting Saturday and local Las Vegas leaders like LVCVA chief Steve Hill were lined up before the 3 PM event before the Raiders-Seattle Seahawks preseason game three hours later.

LVSportsBiz.com saw Hill on line and asked the CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) if there was any public money around to help the Oakland Athletics build a possible ballpark in the Las Vegas market.

Hill chuckled behind his mask and said, “Ask her.”

And he pointed to Clark County Commission Chairperson Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

“There’s no money,” Kirkpatrick said before she, Hill and the rest of the local dignitaries filed over to cut the stadium ribbon with big scissors. The Raiders received a record NFL stadium subsidy of $750 million from Southern Nevada, while Howard Hughes Corp. owner of the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators, received $80 million for their ballpark naming rights deal. The city of Henderson also gave public money to Golden Knights owner Bill Foley for the new Silver Knights 6,000-seat arena off Green Valley Ranch Parkway and the VGK community ice center in downtown Henderson.

Good luck, Oakland Athletics, in your quest for public dollars for a $1 billion retractable-rood ballpark here in the metro Vegas market.

Speaking of the Raiders and their stadium, the team’s tickets are going for an extraordinary price on the secondary ticket market.

TicketiQ looked at the Raiders’ home game ticket prices on the secondary market and compiled these two charts.

Speaking of tickets, the Las Vegas Aces are selling single-game tickets to non-season ticket holders. Check out LVSportsBiz writer Cassandra Cousineau’s story on the topic.

Speaking of Cassandra’s reporting, she caught up with boxer Many Pacquiao for LVSportsBiz.com this week.

Interesting photo by LVSportsBiz.com photographer Daniel Clark, who captured the BetMGM signage on the Luxor exterior through the Raiders stadium doors that open out to the Strip and the east side of 1-15 during Saturday’s Seattle-Raiders preseason game.
