The WNBA Las Vegas Aces will refund ticket prices to all 2,000 season ticketholders for the upcoming season and the COVID fan capacity at Aces home games will be about 2,000 so that the season ticket holders can attend Aces games for free, Mark Davis, the team’s new owner, said at a press conference at the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium.
Davis also said the team’s new president is Nikki Fargas, who was introduced to the media Tuesday. Fargas was the former LSU women’s basketball coach. Cassandra Cousineau of LVSportsBiz.com put together this video of our interview of Fargas today.
More from Fargas:
“All 2,000 fans will be given tickets for attendance. No charges for tickets. They will receive full refunds,” said Davis, also the Raiders owner. The presser was held at the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium. Davis opened the presser by saying that the WNBA is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
Fargas, 48, pictured above, center, said community outreach is important along with growing the WNBA and the sport.
“These women have shattered expectations. I’m incredibly proud of the WNBA players,” Fargas said of the women’s fight against systemic racism.
Fargas is married to former Raiders running back Justin Fargas, who played for Mark Davis’ father, former Raiders owner Al Davis.
“Diversity and inclusion will always be at the forefront,” Nikki Fargas said. “We will stand up for what’s right,” she said in response to an LVSportsBiz.com question on the Aces brand appealing to all fans.
In an interview with LVSportsBiz.com after the presser, Fargas said she plans to hire more staff to bolster the Aces’ social media, coverage of road games, storytelling the lives of the Aces players and prep work to help players transition to other careers once their playing days are over.
Davis mentioned the Aces team will create a new player alumni association.
Davis was also upset about the knee injury sustained by Aces forward Angel McCoughtry in a recent preseason game against the Los Angeles Sparks. Take a listen.
