Golden Knights Muster Lone Goal In 3-1 Loss To Blues Wednesday, Return To Vegas For Friday’s VGK-Arizona Game

By Alan Snel of LVSportsBiz.com

Just two days after the Vegas Golden Knights piled up six goals in only two periods against the St. Louis Blues in a 6-1 victory, the Knights managed only a single tally in Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to the reeling Blues.

If there’s any consolation for the 25-11-2 Vegas ice men, it’s that the Knights’ new, one-year division rival, Colorado Avalanche, lost to Minnesota, 8-3, Wednesday and the VGK remained four points behind the West-leading Avs.

The Golden Knights fell behind, 1-0, only 48 seconds into the game on a goal by St. Louis’ Vladimir Tarasenko.

Less than seven minutes later, Sammy Blais made it, 2-0, for the Blues. Keep in mind the Knights played with only five defensemen as Alec Martinez missed the game.

After a scoreless middle stanza, the Blues upped their advantage to 3-0 at the 13:31 mark of period three with a goal by Jake Walman.

The Golden Knights could muster only a lone goal by Nic Roy, his second the season, with less than five minutes in the third period.

St. Louis netminder Jordan Binnington stopped 50 of 51 VGK shots and earned the game’s top star.

We generated some quality chances. We didn’t have as much traffic as we had last game. Sometimes you have to give the other goalie some credit. — Golden Knights coach Pete DeBoer

Meanwhile, VGK goalie Marc-Andre Fleury took the loss, stopping 32 of 35 shots.

The 17-16-6 Blues trail fourth place Arizona by three points for the final playoff position in the West.

The Golden Knights return home to T-Mobile Arena Friday for a match with Arizona.
