Las Vegas Motor Speedway is selling tickets and inviting fans for the upcoming hot rod race event at the Speedway’s The Strip.

The Speedway’s officials received the green light from the state to host fans in accordance with guidelines set forth by Gov. Steve Sisolak and the state of Nevada for the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) event Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at the sprawling Speedway grounds north of Las Vegas.

The Speedway is saying this will be the first major professional sports event in Nevada with spectators in attendance since mass gatherings were suspended at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in March. The UNLV football team hopes to have fans at Allegiant Stadium on Oct. 31 when the Rebels host University of Nevada, Reno. The Las Vegas Lights soccer team, a Triple A soccer team in United Soccer League, had some fans at their last game of the season at Cashman Field in downtown Las Vegas.

Speedway officials say 10 percent of the venue’s attendance capacity will be used to host NHRA fans for the drag races at The Strip facility at LVMS. UNLV football is also looking at having 10 percent fan capacity at Allegiant Stadium oct. 31.

“We’re excited to be able to welcome back passionate race fans for this event,” said Chris Powell, Speedway’s president.

“Our staff has spent countless hours preparing our facility to host spectators, teams and officials, and we’re thrilled to be able to do what we do best, and that’s entertain our guests with some of the most exciting racing in the world. We understand we are taking on a responsibility, and we’re intent on setting the proper example for all the sports and entertainment venues in Las Vegas that are looking to welcome back spectators,” Powell said.

Race fans attending the Dodge NHRA Finals will be required to wear face coverings, maintain proper social distancing, enter at designated times and use restrooms and concessions in their specific areas. Various other requirements also will be asked of those in attendance.  All ticketing will be mobile and all transactions for concessions and souvenirs will be cashless.
