Like all fighters at Saturday’s UFC 250 event in Las Vegas, UFC superstar and two-division champ Amanda Nunes must not test positive in the promotion’s COVID-19 test to take on Canada’s Felicia Spencer in the UFC Apex building.
But that might not be as simple as it seems.
The 32-year-old fighter from Brazil explained, “I was in a convention in Vegas, with people from all over the world, right when the COVID-19 thing started. I left the convention here in Vegas and went home. I started to get real sick when I got home. I’ve never felt that in my life; I was in bed for two or three days.”
The Brazilian added her wife, Nina Ansaroff, the UFC’s #5 ranked strawweight, also fell ill during that time.
“When I started to get better, Nina started to get sick too,” Nunes said. “I recovered at home, I was in total quarantine, and Nina went to the emergency [room] real fast because of the baby.”
Ansaroff is due to give birth in September.
Nunes has been tested but did not know the results at the time of the UFC virtual media day to promote UFC 250. Nunes told LVSportsBiz.com, “I’m feeling 100 percent. If I were sick I wouldn’t have taken the fight.”
Nunes, nicknamed, “Lioness,” remained focused on winning. “My life in this sport is to make history and Saturday I’m going to follow that path . . . I will win this fight no doubt in my mind.”
