Despite Raiders’ Losing Ways and Loss In Coliseum’s Final Game In Oakland Sunday, Excitement Growing With New Stadium In Las Vegas

By Alan Snel of LVSportsBiz.com

The Oakland Raiders played their final game at the Coliseum Sunday and it was a disappointing loss, 20-16, to Jacksonville. The final Coliseum record: 192 wins, 132 losses and three ties.

Meanwhile back here in Las Vegas, fans continued to pay homage to the Raiders’ $1.9 billion domed stadium project with visits to the construction site just west of the Strip. Every Sunday, the construction site becomes a tourist attraction.

The Raiders limped to the finish line or their final game at the Coliseum this season and are in the midst of a four-game losing streak, going from 6-4 amid playoff hopes to a mediocre 6-8 record after the Jacksonville loss. After 14 games, the Raiders have been outscored by 112 points.

Yet, despite the Raiders’ losing ways season after season, they have sold out their Las Vegas stadium, which will house 65,000 seats on a site on the west side of Interstate 15 across the interstate from Mandalay Bay hotel-casino. Personal seat license revenue of nearly $400 million has helped the Raiders pay for their share of the stadium costs, while Southern Nevada is giving $750 million towards the stadium construction.
