When the San Jose Sharks show up at the Big Ice House to play the Vegas Golden Knights, there’s always a natural buzz in the arena where 18,275 fans gathered Thursday night.
There was inherent excitement in the sections and concourses for the VGK vs San Jose division showdown. But there was also a lot of purple in the building to honor Hockey Fights Cancer night, with people signing the names of loved ones fighting cancer on the small placards you see at venues these days. The VGK purple-adorned jersey was seen all around.
Golden Knights’ defenseman Shea Theodore was the game day poster’s featured player — a most appropriate selection given the fact he was diagnosed with cancer this year.
Fans shared stories of family members and friends fighting cancer.

Midway through period one, the Sharks scored. But the Knights asked for a review and the refs ruled goalie interference. Scoreless after one period. Knights outshot Sharks, 14-6, as VGK controlled the territory and pace of play.
In period two, the Sharks jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Timo Meier.
Brayden McNabb notched the equalizer in period three to make it 1-1.
San Jose’s Logan Couture scores the game winner in overtime.
VGK coach Gerard Gallant did not appear upset after the overtime loss. The Knights gained a point tonight, but failed again to win the three-on-three OT game. The Golden Knights have struggled this season in OT games. They’re 0-4 on overtime games.
Here’s Gallant at his presser:
The Knights play next Saturday when the Edmonton Oilers and former Knights player James Neal come to T-Mobile Arena. LVSportsBiz.com will be back at Top of the Escalator for our pregame segment.
