UNLV and Las Vegas technology company Switch have agreed to a five-year technology deal worth $1.5 million that will focus on sports science, data analytics and student-athlete success.
Switch sees its $300,000-per-year relationship with the UNLV Athletic Department over five years as accelerating its entry into sports, and the area of health and wellness research.
Something called the Switch Sports Science Studio in the heart of UNLV’s planned Center for Student-Athlete Excellence will anchor the UNLV-Switch partnership.
“Switch is excited to build the technology foundation to accelerate the emergence of the UNLV Athletic Department as a nationally preeminent program through the intersection of data analytics, sports technology and physical athletics,” Switch founder and CEO Rob Roy said in a press release Tuesday.
UNLV Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois was elated: “This is a cutting-edge collaboration with a world-class technology company that will deliver unprecedented impact.”
Through the partnership with Switch, UNLV wants to emerge as a national leader in safeguarding, through technology and innovation, the health and welfare of student-athletes, the press release said.
“Switch is proud to provide the technology infrastructure at the forefront of Las Vegas’ and UNLV’s transformation,” Roy said.
