The dollar bills flew through the air and then tumbled along the soccer field, with some 200 Las Vegas Lights fans in hot pursuit of the cash.
It was halftime of the Lights-El Paso Locomotive soccer game and the Lights had just unleashed their go-to promotion of the season — a $10,000 cash drop from the team mascot secured in a helicopter hovering above the Cashman Field pitch.
The Lights pulled the same stunt during their inaugural season and the buzz around the promotion prompted the team to repeat it in season two.
Attendance was reported at 6,308 for the Lights, which typically draw about 1,000 more than Saturday night’s announced crowd size.
The cash drop went off without any incidents as fans aggressively chased dollar bills and slid across the grass to coral the money.
As far as the game went, El Paso scored on a penalty kick early in the second half, then scored again with 10 minutes left in the game and polished off the Lights, 3-0, with a final tally late in the game.
Vegas Golden Knights player Alex Tuch attended the game, and that appeared to be the highlight for the hometown fans.
