They tossed more than 20,000 water balloons at halftime, water flying everywhere. Anything to keep cool during a pro soccer game in Las Vegas in late August.
It was just another crazy, wacky promotion by your Las Vegas Lights FC, inviting anyone in the crowd of 7,686 to hit the pitch at Cashman Field and lob water balloons.
Not only did the fans cool down at the half, they also celebrated the Lights winning their eighth game of the season, a 1-0 victory over Portland 2. The Lights survived not one but two shots by the Portland team that struck the goal post.
The Lights have won eight, lost 10 and tied six and rank 14th out of 18 western conference teams. They are three points out of a playoff position and head to Tulsa for an away game Wednesday.
The promotions continue in September when the Lights will hold a cash drop from a helicopter. LVSportsBiz.com spoke with the pilot, Dean Miarecki, owner of Skyline Helicopter Tours of Las Vegas, about the cash drop promotion.
