Las Vegas Lights owner Brett Lashbrook gazed at the big walk-up crowd gathering to buy tickets for the downtown Lights soccer game, but he hesitated to estimate the attendance for the Lights — Real Monarchs SLC game Saturday night.
“It’ll break your heart,” Lashbrook told LVSportsBiz.com before the game.
But Lashbrook didn’t leave Cashman Field heartbroken. His Lights defeated the Real Monarchs SLC, 1-0, and announced attendance was a very robust 9,102.
The Lights invited Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley to the game because the United Soccer League game was a Knights – Lights cross-promotion special with the soccer club saluting its sibling Las Vegas hockey team with a Lights soccer jersey with VGK colors, the Golden Knights’ popular Knight Line Drumbots drummers and national anthem singer Carnell “Golden Pipes” Johnson. Even Bark-Andre Furry, the small dog owned by Rick Williams that wears a number 29 Fleury jersey, donned a Lights jersey for the evening.
Here’s Lashbrook talking about the Knight-Light Saturday Night Special.
Before the game the Knight Line drummers linked up with the drummers from the Lights supporter group Electric Company.
The Golden Knights march of the mascot Chance, the Knight Line and the Golden Aces cheerleaders even took place into Cashman Field.
Interesting enough, the Golden Knights were also in action Saturday night, dropping a 4-3 decision in overtime to the San Jose Sharks. The Knights are in the playoffs and will likely face off against the Sharks in the first round of the playoffs. The VGK will contact season ticket holders about first round game prices Monday and the public can buy single game tickets starting Friday.
The supporter groups of the Electric Company and Luz & Fuerza were in mid-season form and enjoyed celebrating with the Golden Knights’ Knight Line Drumbots.
The Lights scored their first win of the young season after a tie in the season-opener at home and two road losses. It was a 1-0 win that put the Lights into the victory column for 2019.
