The big-time sports events just keep on coming in Las Vegas, which hosts the Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin boxing rematch at T-Mobile Arena Saturday.
A year ago, the duo fought in the same venue and a judge’s bizarre scorecard favoring Alvarez led the way to a controversial draw.
But nobody could dispute the gate receipts, which totaled more than $27 million thanks to more than 17,300 tickets sold (plus more than 900 comps). The Canelo-GGG gate was more than the Canelo-Mayweather gate, but less than than Mayweather-Pacquaio and Mayweather-McGregor in Nevada.
Monday, LVSportsBiz.com met Las Vegas’ Sportsnista — Cassandra Cousineau of Las Vegas — to discuss the economic impacts and marketing issues facing Canelo-GGG II. We covered a lot of ground, from the subdued marketing of the fight to the visitors’ impact to the role of Las Vegas as America’s boxing mecca. Here’s the LVSportsBiz.com-Sportsnista interview outside T-Mobile Arena today.
