Gov. Sandoval Creates Sports Event Committee For Southern Nevada (But It Seems Highly-Paid People Are Already Recruiting Sports Events To Southern Nevada)

Raiders President Marc Badain is trying to bring a Super Bowl and World Cup soccer to the new Raiders stadium. LVCVA Chief Rossi Ralenkotter said last week the NHL awards show is returning to Las Vegas. Las Vegas Events President Pat Christenson works on attracting sports events to Sin City as part of his job.
But just to make sure that Southern Nevada has more people trying to lure sports events to metro Las Vegas, Gov. Brian Sandoval has created something called the “Southern Nevada Sporting Event Committee” to — guess what — “secure new and bigger sporting events.”
It seems strange to have yet another state committee to do stuff that several highly-paid people are already doing — namely, recruit sports events to a hot sports market. Most people know the metro Las Vegas market is the hottest sports market in the U.S. with new teams launching their franchises and new venues being built.
A Sandoval press release said his Southern Nevada Sporting Events Committee will be made up of these positions (take a deep breath because there are a lot of people and a lot of titles):
Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development
Chairman of the Stadium Authority Board (Steve Hill)
Mayor of the City of Las Vegas (Carolyn Goodman)
Chair of the Clark County Commission (Steve Sisolak)
President and Chief Executive Officer of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce
Chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education (Thom Reilly)
One or more representatives of professional sports teams based in Nevada or committed to locating in Nevada.
Chief Executive Officer of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (Rossi Ralenkotter)
Chair of the Board of Trustees of Las Vegas Events
Six representatives of the Nevada Resort Association
Any other person deemed necessary by Sandoval, who will appoint the chair and vice-chair of the committee. And the Governor’s Office of Economic Development will provide administrative support to this committee.
Sandoval spokeswoman Mary-Sarah Kinner said the new committee gives these important sports-recruiting folks in Southern Nevada a chance to work collaboratively with each other. Sandoval could not be reached because he was out of state at an event.
