President Trump Says NFL Teams Having a Very Hard Time Filling Up Their Stadiums; Let’s Check the Numbers

The nation’s president weighed in again on NFL players who kneel during the national anthem with this tweet this morning:
“At least 24 players kneeling this weekend at NFL stadiums that are now having a very hard time filling up. The American public is fed up with the disrespect the NFL is paying to our Country, our Flag and our National Anthem. Weak and out of control!”
Let’s look at the attendance numbers, based on ESPN data. ESPN has tracked attendance of 31 of the 32 NFL teams.
A dozen teams are averaging at least 100 percent attendance capacity at their home stadiums. They are led by the Dallas Cowboys at 116.2 percent and the Green Bay Packers at 107.2 percent.
Other 100 percent capacity teams are Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco, New Orleans, Houston, Denver, Carolina, Arizona, Indianapolis and Chicago.
Another 13 NFL teams are averaging at least 90 percent attendance capacity led by Miami at 99.6 percent, Baltimore at 99.5 percent and Detroit at 99.4 percent.
Other teams with at least 90 percent capacity are the Jets, Giants, Kansas City, Atlanta, Buffalo, Tennessee, Atlanta, Minnesota, New England, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay.
There are six teams averaging at least 80 percent of capacity. The half-dozen are Jacksonville, Oakland, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Washington and Los Angeles. The Chargers’ attendance at a temporary home at a soccer stadium in Carson, California was not included.
