Former Vegas Golden Knights Chief Marketing Officer Nehme Abouzeid left the NHL expansion franchise June 30 to pursue “personal consulting,” VGK owner Bill Foley told LVSportsBiz.com this morning.
When asked why Abouzeid left the Golden Knights in a text, Foley responded, “Wanted to do some personal consulting in the areas he had been handling.”
The team never announced that Abouzeid had left a week and a half ago — a departure that leaves the Golden Knights without a key person to head up the selling and branding of the club to the market.
The Vegas Golden Knights are only three months away from their home opener on Oct. 10, yet the team is back to searching for a chief marketing officer.
Abouzeid, a Boston native and Las Vegas resident, had worked for Steve Wynn for three years as executive director of brand marketing and entertainment marketing at Wynn Las Vegas from 2013-16.
Before his Wynn stint, he worked as director of partnership marketing for Las Vegas Sands Corp, from 2011-13.
Abouzeid could not be reached for comment.
